Honest News Journal

About

Honest News Journal is about reading news carefully without turning every article into a courtroom. We help curious general readers distinguish claims from evidence, notice missing context and recognise when a story leaves questions open.

What we examine

We look at the parts that shape a reader’s understanding: the central claim, the people or documents cited, the background supplied, the headline’s emphasis and the language used to express uncertainty. Our aim is to make those choices easier to notice, not to tell readers what to think about every issue.

Who it is for

This publication is for people who want to follow public reporting more thoughtfully, whether they read one story or keep up with a subject over time. You do not need specialist knowledge. We focus on questions a reader can ask of the material in front of them.

A careful way to read

We treat a report as a piece of work with limits as well as strengths. A quotation may explain a source’s view without proving the whole claim; a striking detail may need context; and a developing story may not yet have settled answers. We try to show the distinction plainly.
